Scarlet by Marissa Meyer is the second book in the fantasy series “The Lunar Chronicles” and is an exciting mixture of science fiction, thriller, adventure, and mystery, with some romance thrown in. The story follows two main characters and begins in Rieux, France. It follows the first main character, a girl named Scarlet whose beloved grandmother goes missing. Desperate for answers, she leaves in search of her grandmother, and along her journey, she encounters a mysterious character, to whom she is inexplicably drawn. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book because of how thrilling it was with suspenseful moments keeping me on the edge of my seat. The complexity of the storyline added greater depth. Furthermore, the book is written from different perspectives, and I like how all the character's stories intertwine and connect to each other. Despite the thickness of the book, it was an extremely quick read and kept me wanting to read more to find out what would happen next. The book ends with a cliffhanger, making the reader want to read the sequel. Ultimately, this book is for you if you like thrilling stories that have complex storylines which are written from multiple perspectives. (Seoyeon. Grade 8)

“Scarlet” by Marissa Myer is the second book of the dystopian, fantasy series “The Lunar Chronicles”. “Scarlet” follows the story of a girl with the same name, as well as continuing the Lunar Chronicles story where the last one left off. Scarlet Benoit lives on a farm with her grandmother in a small town in France called Rieux. Scarlet's story starts when her grandmother goes missing. Scarlet, desperate for answers goes on a journey to find her grandmother, along with a mysterious character named Wolf. In another part of the world, a cyborg criminal breaks out of her prison cell. Cinder having just broke out of her cell, struggles to find a way out of the prison. She lands in another prisoner's cell. Maybe he can help her break out. I enjoyed the story of Scarlet. It tells it from 2 POVs (Scarlet and Cinder). I recommend this book to people who like the genres of fantasy, dystopian, romance, and action.  (Amerie. Grade 8)

“Scarlet, The Lunar Chronicles” by Marissa Meyer was a book that I found really exciting and thrilling. The story follows two main characters, one who is a wanted cyborg and another a normal girl on a mission to find a missing loved one. At the end of this story, the two characters meet and their stories intertwine. The book is cut off with a hook that really made me want to read the sequel. This is a great book for anyone who loves the genres of sci-fi, adventure, mystery, thriller, and a pinch of romance. I would recommend it for ages 11 and up because it might be challenging for younger ages to read because of its length. (Nina. Grade 8)

“Scarlet, The Lunar Chronicles” by Marissa Meyer is a 400-long page story. Lunars are people with inhuman powers and are from a planet called Luna. Linh Cinder, also known as Princess Selene, is a Lunar princess cyborg. Scarlet is a teenage girl who is trying to find her grandma who disappeared all of a sudden. The world is at stake with queen Levana controlling everyone and people horrified by the cyborg. This book consists of the genres of action, sci-fi, adventure, mystery, and a bit of romance as well. I would recommend this book to ages over 13+ as it has a complicated vocabulary and is a pretty thick book. I would also recommend this book to people who enjoy the genre of action, sci-fi, and adventure as it consists mostly of those genres.  (Ellery. Grade 8)
