If You Come Softly, written by Jacqueline Woodson goes under the genre of realistic fiction and light-romance. This book is about a boy named Jeremiah. He is black and goes to a school called Percy. While walking through the hallway he bumps into a girl named Ellie . They both developed feelings for each other and came together. Though they face many problems because of racism. Since Ellie is white and Jeremiah is black, people were very mean to them and gave very rude comments, though nothing could break their love. The word vocabulary wasn't very hard to understand. I would rate this book 2.5-3 because the end was very confusing and REALLY sad! Though apart from the ending it wasn't a bad book. (Enya. Grade 6)

When I read the book, I felt like just reading a summary of how couples date. It means that the author did a good job of writing detailed emotions and feelings of the characters. I could clearly see how they feel and how the situation is going like. The book was pretty well written, with a balance of romance and kind of funny points. But the thing that I felt weird about was that the story is kind of going slow and I feel like there is no highlight in the book. When I was reading, I thought there should be a highlight now, but they keep talking about their emotions and stuff which made the book less fun. (Lael. Grade 6)
