The book Phineas Gage: A Gruesome but True Story About Brain Science was written by John Fleischman. This book falls under the genre of non-fiction, as it tells the story of Phineas Gage and what happened to his brain when a 13-pound iron rod was shot through his brain in 1848. Throughout the 1st chapter, Fleischman writes about Phineas’s story and what truly happened when the rod went through his brain. In the next few chapters, Fleischman talks about what the doctors and surgeons did and thought about this event and how both Phineas and the doctors developed after the event happened. I personally really enjoyed the book because it talks about brain science and how deep it can really go. The vocabulary was definitely a bit harder than other books because of the terminology used to describe certain parts of the brain. It was very interesting and I really enjoyed reading this book. If you can’t handle the talk of blood and detailed terminologies talking about surgeries, then this book isn’t for you. If you can handle that, I would definitely recommend this book. (Zaria.
