The Underneath by Kathi Appelt

"The Underneath" is a very touching and sad story. It is about how a cat becomes friends with a poor bloodhound who is tied up and lives in the home of a horrible man deep in the jungle. The cat soon gives birth to two tiny kittens and they all become a strange but happy family. The story includes pain and sacrifice. This was a sad but very nice book to read. If you don't specifically like “sad” stories I would not recommend it to you. (Nina. Grade 7)
