The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod, Ninth Grade Slays by Heather Brewer is a book that fits mostly in young fiction, mystery, horror, and speculative genres. Vlad’s life currently is in stable condition again, but soon goes up and down, through making new friends, learning to control his powers, meeting other vampires, and grumbling about high school. But something unexpected happens towards the end of the book. This part really surprised me because I did not know it was going to happen. I really enjoyed the second book of this series because of the plot and how the author has made the audience/reader not put down the book and get bored of it. I would recommend this book for the age of 11-13, as I felt like it fits appropriately towards this age group, and I would also recommend this book to people who like the genre of speculative fiction as it includes a lot of things about vampires. The second book of " The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod'' series by Heather Brewer was another thrilling story that I couldn't put down. In this novel, Vlad faces new challenges as a vampire. He gets to spend some time with his uncle and other vampires, he also makes a new friend, Joss. At first, his new friend seems nice protecting him from bullies and all. But is Joss really as kind as he pretends to be? What does he know about Vlad's secret? I liked this story as it fits in the genres of mystery and thriller. The author uses literary techniques such as similes and metaphors to express the scenes and how the characters were feeling. I would recommend it for ages 9 and up that can start to read chapter books but not for younger ages as it contains mild violent scenes. (Nina. Grade 7)
