I really loved this book and I would recommend it to anyone, it's about this girl, Iris. She's deaf and lives with her family, who isn't deaf, but her grandparents are. She suddenly got interested in this whale called Blue 55, he is a hybrid, half Blue whale and half Fin whale, and each pod has their own melody, but he has a different melody which makes it really hard to communicate with other whales. Iris is desperate to help him, so she created this idea to make his melody, which is in 55 hertz and she had the band from music class to play Blue 55's melody. She planned to put an underwater speaker and turn on the melody so Blue 55 can hear it. She communicates with one of the scientists in the sanctuary in Alaska. She planned to go there to meet Blue 55 but her parents didn't let, so Iris and her grandma sneaked away together on a cruise to set off to Alaska. But on the way, the whale tracker announced that he was in Oregon, US. She thought it was the end but something unexpected happened... (Ellery, Grade 7)

The story is about a girl who is deaf and she hears about this whale with a different song. That whale can't communicate with other whales and the main character, Iris, feels a slight connection with it. The vocabulary wasn't all that challenging but there were some words I couldn't understand. (Rachel Grade 8)

This book is about a deaf girl who was born on the same day as a deaf whale died. She was named after that whale, Iris. One day in class she learns about a whale called Blue 55 whose song is different from all the other whales. No other whale can understand him when he tries to communicate. The girl wants to reach out and connect with him, and finds a way to make it happen. I liked this book. I think it was quite good, it shows how even though it seemed like she wouldn't be able to make it, and wouldn't find the whale she finds a way to show him that someone does understand him. (Justine.
