I Was a Rat! by Philip Pullman

The book ‘I was a Rat’ has a very funny sidebar of Cinderella's story. Pullman has written a wonderful book exploring the dangers of the press and its bias. The daily scourge in the narrative is hugely biased against Roger (the rat) and it helps kids to see how newspapers always have an agenda when they print a story out. Especially in today's political climate, Pullman's commentary on the press media felt very relevant. There was also great humor and just the right amount of intrigue. I would recommend this book to whoever likes to read adventure, mystery, and of course a final satisfying solution to the ending. (Maia. Grade 8)
