I really enjoyed the book “Chains' 'by Lauri Halse Anderson. It was a very nice book that I not only enjoyed but that it also taught me more in depth about the history of slavery and the life of slaves in America. The story follows the struggles of two young dark skinned girls who have no family. It describes how they get sold and have to work for their Master and Madam who are not very nice to them. This story takes place during the Revolutionary War between America and Britain in the eighteenth century. I am happy I chose this book because it helped me understand how harsh life was for slaves in the past. I would mostly recommend this novel to people who enjoy reading about historical events and the genre historical fiction. This book is most suitable for ages above nine because it might be a bit confusing and harsh for younger kids. (Nina. Grade 7)
