The book "A Yellow House" by Karien Van Ditzhuijezen was an interesting story for me. It is about the hard life of maids and their daily struggles as domestic helpers in Singapore. This story is told through the eyes of a 10 year old girl, Maya who is also going through her own struggles both at home as well as at school where she is bullied. Together with her maid, Maya tries to help several domestic helpers all of whom are badly treated by their employees. In this book there are many stories that are all connected through the character of Maya. At first, I did not really enjoy the book but after some time I was happy I kept reading it as it got more interesting and I became more engaged. I would mostly recommend this for ages 11 and up and for people who enjoy reading non fiction genre stories. (Rama. Grade 7)
