The Boy on the Wooden Box by Leon Leyson is based on a true story of a Jewish family that survived the holocaust. The Leyson's have a pretty simple country life in eastern Poland. They are a family of 5 kids and 2 parents. When they move for their father's job, the family seems to have reached a modern life with privileges they could never have dreamed of. Until... word reaches them that the Germans are returning. After the first great war (WWI), everyone thought it was over, but the enemy was back. This time with not only tanks and weapons, but with propaganda about Jews... Follow the story as the Leyson's lives change as they struggle to survive through concentration camps, discrimination, and fear. Since it is based on a true story, I think this book is non-fiction. I think it was incredibly well written, but also very sad. I recommend this book to people who want to know more about how devastating life was for the Jews during WWI. If you are looking for a book that is easy to read, I don’t recommend this book because I personally thought the vocabulary was quite challenging. (Malena. Grade 8)

This book is a true story from the point of view of a Jewish survivor of World War 2. It is his story of the experiences he had as a Jewish child who lived through the war. I would recommend reading this book because it is a true story about an important event in our history, and helps to understand more about what kind of things people went through or things that happened during the war.
