For Beavers and Cubs, the only formal item of uniform that you'll need to get is a jumper. For Scouts, it's a shirt. The Group scarf (or necker) is also part of the formal uniform, but the Group provides that - although there is a small charge for replacements.
A uniform jumper or shirt (along with various optional branded items like T-shirts and caps) can be bought new:
online from the Scout shop: https://shop.scouts.org.uk/shop-kids-uniform
in store at the Guides Shop, 16 Coates Crescent, Edinburgh
The Group passes on pre-loved uniform items with no charge on a first-come-first-served basis. If you check with the volunteers for your young person's section, they'll be able to tell you what we have in stock.
Online pre-loved clothing vendors (e.g. Vinted) may also be worth trying.
The uniform jumper or shirt is a canvas for sewing on all the badges that your young person will accumulate in Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.
For where to put the badges see: https://prod-cms.scouts.org.uk//media/xhjf3rpb/uniform-diagrams_april-2024.pdf.
For the membership badges (i.e. the ones given out at an investiture), img 1 may be of some assistance.
If you're unsure, you can of course just ask one of our volunteers.

Donations of pre-loved (but still wearable) uniform items, as well as other Beavers, Cubs or Scouts branded clothing, are always very welcome.
Items can be dropped off:
with any of our volunteers
at the Deanpark Primary school thrift shop
by arrangement, just contact hello@balernoscouts.org.uk
It's not necessary to remove the badges from a jumper or shirt before donating it. But having worked hard to earn them, your child might like to keep them. As a suggestion, an old Scouting tradition is to take the badges off the jumper or shirt and sew them onto a badge blanket. The Scouts store even sells badge blankets: https://shop.scouts.org.uk/scouts-badges/scouts-badge-blanket
