In the state of Florida, tragedy struck as Hurricane Ian destroyed houses, business, and several landmarks and tourist sites.
The total death toll was nearly 120 people, most of whom drowned in the storm surge which in some areas was nearly 18 feet high. Ian was a category 4 hurricane.
Ian destroyed many places including a well known vacation spot, Sanibel Island.
The devastation left hundreds of thousands of people stranded, some who's houses were still intact but surrounded by water were stranded on the roofs of their homes.
Ian was known as the deadliest hurricane to ever hit the state of Florida since the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane.
Although Florida has suffered many hurricanes, this was something like they'd never seen, and will take a large amount of time to rebuilt what was lost.
