The presidential inauguration took place last Wednesday, Jan. 20. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were sworn into office and have officially taken the place of Donald Trump and Mike Pence.
Biden set out a plan last week for his first ten days. Some things gone over were COVID procedures, economic relief, the climate, healthcare and restoring America’s place in the world. Here is how it has gone so far.
Biden has already reversed the Trump administration's ban on transgender Americans joining the military. Biden also has passed a few bills that have affected the economy. His latest restores collective bargaining power and worker protections for federal workers, and lays the foundation for $15 minimum wage.
A large concern among the American people is how Biden will handle pandemic procedures.
President Biden said, “We face an attack on our democracy and on truth, a raging virus, growing inequity, the sting of systemic racism, a climate in crisis, America's role in the world. Any one of these will be enough to challenge us in profound ways. But the fact is, we face them all at once, presenting this nation with one of the gravest responsibilities we've had. Now we're going to be tested. Are we going to step up? All of us? It’s time for boldness, for there is so much to do."
Biden has taken a quick bite at the pandemic in the first week. Biden has already reestablished a safety protocol for certain countries. Among these are the Schengen Area, the United Kingdom, Ireland and South Africa. In total, he has signed 30 executive orders in his first three days as president. This is a record breaking number, the most in US history.
Biden said, “I give you my word, I will always level with you. I will defend the Constitution. I’ll defend our democracy. I’ll defend America and I will give all, all of you.”
This is the way Biden ended his speech Wednesday, and we can see the impact he is already having on every aspect of our country. Reality has set in, as Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are officially the new faces of our country.
