The first day of school is different for everyone this year. It’s online and it’s in class with a multitude of changes around the world on how learning will be done.
Badin is one of the fortunate schools who's to come back into the school building and see their teachers and friends again.
For most of the students in the school, this doesn’t make much of an impact. Just another year for them with the new policies in place to attempt to stop COVID-19 from spreading in the building.
But this year, we have a new wave of students entering their freshman year. Many had heard the history behind Badin and the activities we enjoy doing as a Ramily.
Though we can’t do everything like before, that does not mean we can’t give them the best first year as possible.
Payton Strunk is one of the new freshmen in the school who was excited to come to school because of all the new opportunities and friends she’d make. Nerves were to be expected during orientation, especially with all of the new policies to follow.
“It wasn’t as bad as I expected it to be, but it’s worth it to be in school,” Strunk said.
The freshman returned once again on Friday for the half-day.
“I didn’t feel like I needed it, but I can understand why other students would,” Strunk said.
Then the first official day came, and so did the crowds.
“I really liked it, it finally hit me that I was in high school and the crowd just made it better,” Strunk explained.
Strunk’s first few days seemed very exciting, but what about fellow classmate Ellie Green?
Green was nervous on her first day. The orientation was a new thing for her, especially with the cheering seniors on her way in.
But otherwise, she was perfectly fine with all of the new policies to be in the building.
Also returning on Friday, “I needed that half-day. I would've gotten lost trying to get to class without it,” Green said.
During the first official day of school, she explained, “It was scary and I felt like I was going to get trampled in the halls. Getting to my locker in the time limit with everyone else was nerve wracking also."
Green and Strunk have different feelings about the first few days of school. But they have a long year ahead of them, and plenty of time to get to know Badin.
