Last Saturday, the outdoor Homecoming Watch Party for the boys football game against Carroll was streamed on the Hill. A large screen, food and drinks and live commentary was available while maintaining social distancing. A large crowd was there for the special game, as the Homecoming king and queen were announced at the contest’s halftime.
This had never been done before, or outside at least. In past years, faculty and the student body have all gone to the game in person and made up the crazy Homecoming atmosphere that we all know and love. This year though, it was different, but just because it hasn’t been done before, doesn’t mean it wasn’t executed well.
Senior Sergio DeCello, who would have led the student section this fall for the Rams, had lots to say about the Watch Party.
“My favorite part was how we were all together as a school still despite COVID. I wish there were more T-Shirts available to give out though, but overall it was great. I would definitely go back next year if we are under the same circumstances,” DeCello said.
Senior Ben Maccio also went to the outdoor Watch Party. He said it was a very realistic experience,
“I felt like I was at the game,” Maccio said. “This was my first watch party I have been to and I wasn’t too sure about it, but the school definitely came through. I had an opportunity to go to the game, but I wanted to be with the student body for the festivities. I do not regret my decision,” he said.
There is no doubt that those who went had fun, and those who missed out wish they could have gone. Senior Noah Tincher was bummed he couldn’t go, and said he hopes for another opportunity during his senior year.
“From what I’ve heard, it was executed very well. I just hope the school does something similar so I can get another chance to have a student section experience my senior year,” Tincher said.
