Marie Hootman is a JV volleyball player and currently a sophomore at Badin High School
Hootman has been playing volleyball for 7 years after she stopped the two sports she had already been doing.
“My school District started a new volleyball league, and I needed a new sport to do after I stopped dance and gymnastics,” Hootman said.
Hootman has volleyball games quite often and she practices everyday during her season.
“I practice about 2 days a week in the offseason, but in season usually every day,” Hootman said.
Hootman also says the way her practices take place with stretching, hitting the ball back and forth with a game at the end
“Usually we start with stretching, and then do serve receive where one person serves and three people pass or receive the ball to target. We then do hitting lines, and at the end play a game,” Hootman said.
She also mentioned that she has many games a week. During her games, it mainly begins with warm up then depending on if you are JV or Varsity, you get either three or five sets during the game.
So each team warms up for 4 minutes (2minutes hitting/passing and then 2 minutes serving)
Then you start the game after a coin toss to see who gets serve and receive. Then the game starts each set is 25 points. In Varsity volleyball it goes to 5sets. But club volleyball and jv and freshman are 3 sets,” Hootman said.
Hootman has made many memories with volleyball in her life most of her favorite are being with her friends at tournaments
My favorite memories are going around hotels with my team, and messing around in like the pool and the workout room. I have gained a lot of friendships through this sport,” Hootman said.
