As we head into Thanksgiving, the majority of us plan to celebrate the holiday season with our families. Earlier last week, a google form was sent out asking the Badin Students what Thanksgiving traditions are celebrated when they are with their families
Normally on Thanksgiving, people get together, eat lots of food, watch the parade, football etc. Sophomore Alyssa Jackson was willing to share her traditions that her and her family do for Thanksgiving.
We always have a thanksgiving breakfast consisting of breakfast foods and casseroles and to replace breakfast foods like sausage, we replace it with turkey. Then we have an early thanksgiving dinner around 3pm and have usual Thanksgiving foods like turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, etc,“ Jackson said.
Most family traditions are the same however, in Senior Michael Schweinefuss house, the family tradition is a bit different.
First we set up a picnic outside. We all lay shirtless in the grass. We play hot -potato. We oil up the cold slimy raw turkey. If the turkey is dropped. You have to eat the entire turkey raw in under 20 minutes. If the task is not complete. You are excommunicated from the family,” Schweinefuss said.
Other families like to begin getting into the Christmas spirit on Thanksgiving. For example, Junior Gracie Combs and her family are a perfect example of this.
“A tradition my family has is putting up the Christmas decorations before dinner and watch Christmas Vacation,” Combs said.
Most families normally would get together at a relatives house. Sophomore Megan Covey and her family do this as a Thanksgiving tradition, along with other fun things to do as a family as well.
“We always have Thanksgiving at my aunt's house. We watch a Christmas movie, pray as a family, and eat until we can't eat anymore. My mom always makes a sweet potato casserole that is delicious and we have some recipes for cookies, green beans, etc. that are so yummy,” Covey said.
