This session will provide an opportunity for collegiate/university conductors and other professionals to meet and discuss issues affecting choral activities in higher education. Participants are invited to come prepared with questions as well as ideas to build the collegiate/university choral community within the state. Furthermore, opportunities for collaboration across institutions and to support feeder programs will be discussed.
Gideon Burrows serves as the newly appointed Director of Fine Arts at Eastern Arizona College in Thatcher, Arizona. In this capacity, he coordinates the various activities of the departments of art, music, and theatre as well as the media communications program. He previously worked as the college’s director of choral music, supervising the choral program as well teaching various ensembles and courses such as applied voice, conducting, theory, and music education. He continues as part of the choral faculty as the director of the A Cappella Choir.
Prior to employment at EAC, Dr. Burrows served as the choir director for the senior high and middle schools in Rigby, Idaho. Under his direction, his students and program received many recognitions at local, state, and regional events. He also served as the Women’s Choir Repertoire and Standards Chair for the Idaho ACDA, and as the associate conductor for the Idaho Falls Sounds Choir and the Utah Baroque Ensemble. He currently supports the Arizona ACDA as the collegiate repertoire & resources coordinator.
Dr. Burrows actively participates as a community and church musician, and has appeared as a clinician, adjudicator and guest conductor for various school and community events in Idaho, Utah, Texas, and Arizona. He earned a D.M.A. in conducting from the University of North Texas, a M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from the University of Idaho, and both a M.M. in Choral Conducting and a B.M. in Music Education from Brigham Young University.
