Phoenix Women's Chorus

Formed in 1993, The Phoenix Women’s Chorus is a nurturing sisterhood of dedicated singers, musicians, and non-singing members. We cherish our lesbian heritage, and remain a diverse and accepting chorus of queer women, nonbinary folx, and allies. Our mission is to provide diverse choral programs that empower all women, embrace inclusivity, and foster the elimination of prejudice and discrimination.

Karli Anderson, Director

Karli Anderson began her choral career at a young age with the San Francisco Girl Chorus, not knowing how this experience would shape her future. Since then, she has sung with choirs across the nation, including the San Antonio Mastersingers, the Yellow Rose Singers, and the Phoenix Symphony Chorus. She graduated with a Masters in Choral Conducting from University of Texas, San Antonio, and holds a Bachelors in Musical Studies from Oberlin College. Currently, Karli is a full-time teacher at Great Hearts Anthem, where she is head of the music department. She is passionate about the transformative power of music, and the unique joy found performing with a choral ensemble."

The Phoenicians strive to be the most entertaining and musically excellent choral organization at the center of a vibrant community in Arizona, and to preserve and advance the barbershop art form to future generations.

Jordan Rakita, Director

Jordan Rakita serves as the Associate Director of the Phoenicians, a premier barbershop chorus in the Metro Phoenix area. He is currently completing his doctoral degree in Choral Conducting from Arizona State University where he has directed the tenor/bass ensemble Canticum Bassum. He holds degrees in Music Education and a Masters in Choral Conducting from Northern Arizona University under Dr. Edith Copley. He is a sought after conductor and clinician, with an emphasis on tenor and bass voices as well as middle school ensembles. Most recently, he has been appointed the Artistic Director position with the Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus, and is thrilled to join the thriving arts and education community in Tucson.
