You've heard the basics of how to correct students—I mean give feedback: lead with positive feedback, be specific and give correction individually, encourage self correction, etc. However, it can be overwhelming at times to find ways to really get students to trust your feedback and to even trust themselves when encouraging self reflection. In this session, we will go over practical ways to improve student feedback and really get your students on the same page with you so that you can give them correction they'll actually take.
Angelique graduated with a Masters Degree in Music Education with a choral emphasis in 2020 and has been teaching middle school choir and drama at Heritage Academy Gateway for the past 3 years. Prior to this, she had been teaching private voice, piano, flute, and guitar lessons to all ages and had directed choirs and led children's music groups on a volunteer basis. As a teacher, she finds it important to keep up with her own interests as an artist as well. She has written and performed music for a local theater production for Tempe Arts in the Parks initiative, has been in many local choirs, performed in local theater productions, and performed as a singer-songwriter and with a cover band in local venues. She has also dabbled in recording and recently released an EP on all streaming platforms. With a strong passion for writing and creating music, Angelique includes arranging and songwriting as a big part of her choir curriculum and strives to allow student choice and buy in to drive her classroom policies. She is lucky to have an extremely supportive partner and 4 beautiful children to share her professional journey with.
