APLUS: Avoyelles Parish Lifting Up Students
APLUS is a project of The Orchard Foundation (nonprofit) and Avoyelles Parish School Board (RLIS-eligible LEA), which will transform two Title I elementary schools in rural Central Louisiana into full-service community schools. APLUS will further develop the capacity, infrastructure, and partnerships to improve and enhance the coordination, integration, accessibility, and effectiveness of services for students, their families, and community members, ultimately providing a holistic pipeline of academic, social, and health services.
Project Goals & Objectives
Goal 1: Provide in- and out-of-school support for students, address well-being, and address out-of-school barriers to learning through partnerships.
1.1 - Increase availability of physical and mental health support for students.
1.2 - Reduce barriers to student attendance and engagement through integrated supports from partner agencies.
Goal 2: Provide expanded and enriched learning time and opportunities through evidence-based strategies.
2.1 - Increase opportunities for STEM enrichment, literacy, and project based learning.
2.2 - Increase access to expanded learning time after school and in the summer to support student growth.
Goal 3: Bring parents, families, and community members into the school by making the school a hub for services, providing centralized supports for families, and offering adults desired educational opportunities.
3.1 - Improve coordination of services.
3.2 - Increase participation in community events.
Goal 4: Build a culture of professional learning, collective trust, and shared responsibility for each community school.
4.1 - Build teacher capacity through targeted professional development.
4.2 - Build leader capacity through collaborative networks.
