Hello and Welcome to American Sign Language!

I am looking forward to working with you and aiding you in becoming a fluent user of ASL. Remember that there are 5 strategies to use to help you in learning ASL. Build a community of ASL users. Work with your friends in class and as study groups outside of class as well. Minimize your reliance on English as you converse in ASL. Focus on the meaning of what is being discussed not on individual signs. Remember to watch the signers face not their hands as the grammar is found on the face. Most importantly, remember to show when you are following along and understand as well as ask for someone to slow down, say it again, or explain when you do not understand. Please take an active role in ASL class by being involved in conversation. This class is a conversational class.

Stay focused in class and remain voice-off.
