Avon Public Schools E.S.O.L

Dear Parents:

WELCOME to the Avon Public Schools English for Speakers of Other Languages (E.S.O.L) Program web page.

Nearly 120 English Learner (EL) students are educated in our schools yearly. One in eight students at Pine Grove Elementary School meets the criteria to participate in our language acquisition program. Avon is lucky to have English Learners and their families from around the world. Our students currently come from countries including: China, Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Pakistan, India, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Albania, Greece, Poland, Ukraine, Russia, France, Germany, Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil, Algeria, Egypt, and Togo.

E.S.O.L staff provides services to students in all 5 schools, utilizing two TESOL (certified Teacher of English to speakers of another language) teachers and two part-time EL tutors. The E.S.O.L staff is highly dedicated and strongly advocate for the needs of our students.

Avon is proud of the accomplishments demonstrated by our EL population. We strive to provide academic, cultural, and social support to all of our English Learners. We value the contributions that our diverse body of students bring, and make the development of their bilingualism and bi-literacy our main objective.

If you have questions about your son or daughter's eligibility for participation in the EL program, please contact one of our teachers.

Sincerely,

Sherri Poi

E.S.O.L Coordinator
