Greetings from the Avery FFA and horticulture department. My name is Dewayne Krege and I’m so blessed to have been in contact with so many amazing students for the past 22 years. I loved my experience at Avery High School and still enjoy many great memories and friendships with my high school peer group.
I have a very unique educational experience that took me from ACHS to Lees-McRae College, to NC State University (Go PACK!!!), to App State, and eventually to NC A&T State University where I received my Master’s in Agricultural Education. I’m a certified NC Commercial Pesticide applicator, a Certified Landscape Technician, a NC Certified Landscape Contractor, and have almost 30 years of experience working with grass and plants. I’m a member of the Turfgrass Council of NC and the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America. What really matters about my education is that I enjoyed every single stage of it and it all lead me right here…..and I want to share those experiences with you!!!!
I’m a total plant geek that loves grass, trees & shrubs, and plant pests! We operate a small family business that treats lawns, trees, and shrubs for overall plant health and pests. We even have a greenhouse and courtyard at ACHS with various grass species so you too, can become a plant/grass geek.
I mentioned the above items so you can know my background, but my core interest is in building relationships. I love traveling with students on field trips and FFA events to include leadership conferences, competitions, and state and national conventions. I love meeting early on a Saturday morning to shoot skeet, rifle, and bows with students as we practice our Hunter Safety skills! I love to cook and spend time with my family. We plan family trips around food!!!! Our family is very involved with our church family where we also build relationships and try to encourage others. I can’t go very long without a good joke or kidding around with others. I love to have fun!
