The African American Cultural Center will be hosting a monthly podcast, The Conversation Lounge, every 3rd Wednesday of the month throughout the school year. We invite you to join us in-person or virtually for engaging conversations about the history of East Austin and the future of African American culture in the Central Texas area. Each month you will go on an intergenerational journey where guests speak about their lived experiences, provide insight about historical events and places in the Austin area, and share lessons that inspire the audience to continue to highlight and celebrate the diverse experiences that build stronger communities.

Kenneth D. Thompson Sr. is an ACC alumni and a distinguished advocate for children's and fathers' rights who is renowned for his extensive contributions to public service and community development. As the first ever Fatherhood Program Specialist for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, Kenneth brings unparalleled expertise and dedication effectively shaping policies and programs that support and strengthen families.
Kenneth has also been a pivotal figure in advancing access and opportunity initiatives long before it became mainstream, and played a prominent role in influencing the Pflugerville Independent School District to remove barriers to Advanced Placement courses for all students. Additionally, Kenneth previously co-hosted a radio show from 2004 -2021 called "The Dad Show" which focused on empowering dads, families and communities. Kenneth is a passionate and dedicated leader whose work continues to impact and inspire communities. His extensive experience, coupled with his commitment to systemic change work, makes him a pivotal figure in public service and community advocacy.
Austin Community College District (ACC) held a special reception on Monday, January 12, 2026, at the Eastview Campus to pay tribute to Roland C. Hayes. The ACC Board of Trustees has unanimously agreed to rename the center in his honor. It will now be known as the Roland C. Hayes African American Cultural Center. Read more here.
