ON A DAILY BASIS
Check your assignments, due dates, and grades here. This is excellent practice for middle school!
Communicate with your teacher(s) after school using your school email account. Keep your inbox clean by deleting old emails from 4th grade and below.
Pack up your belongings the night before. Check the agenda to see what you need for your rotations.
Use your time wisely in class. The teachers give you time to work on it. Then anything unfinished is to be finished at home.
Weekly Homework Agenda: Ms. Chang will update this in the Homeroom Course on Schoology for you to check. Important calendar dates such as upcoming tests, project due dates, field trip info will be in the agenda as well as in SCHOOLOGY.
Checklist: It's a satisfying feeling to cross things off the list when you're finished! We will not have agendas, so you may want to get one of your own if you are more successful with a planner to write in.
Every Teacher is Different: The 5th grade teachers try to stay consistent, but we will post and have our courses designed in our own way. The other teachers will post their assignments in their Schoology courses. Ms. Chang may not always have it in the weekly homework slide on time since those are not her subjects. Check their courses!
It is best to try and do as much as you can during the school day!
You wouldn't want to use your time at home to do extra work!
From the Wise Words of Former 5th Graders
Your peers have experienced 5th grade. They want to pass on their knowledge!

While the fifth-grade teachers seem like the teachers ever, and trust me, they are, they still won't tolerate inappropriate behaviors. It is important that you listen in all classes and don't be distracted. Ms. Chang has a marble jar and when it's full, the entire class gets a worthwhile prize!
Elise
How you behave is very important, because it will reflect on who you are and it will be something the teachers consider when they need someone to help.
Alexis
Take notes of things you might be confused about, then ask a teacher or friend to explain it to you. If it's for math, practice the problem until you get the hang of it.
Make sure to get plenty of sleep the day before the test. If you're tired the day of, you won't be able to pay attention and do well. Review any sources you have, notebooks, linksin Schoology, anything that will help you. You can also use Quizziz, Quizlet, or another website to help you study.
On the day of the test, remember to bring a book. Once you finish your test, read quietly at your seat.

5th Grade tests might seem hard but they aren’t. Even though they aren’t hard you should still be prepared for them, these tips will help you!
Tip 1 - ask someone to help you. You could ask a friend or family member to ask you the question on the test and you can write it on a paper! This usually helps me with tests.
Tip 2 - Don’t start studying for the test very late. If you start studying on Thursday and the test is Friday, you won’t remember much. If you start studying before that, you will most likely remember everything!
Tip 3 - Practice a little at school. Even if you think you remember everything just go over the questions when you get to school. When the teacher says it’s time ÿor the test you have to put whatever you were using away.
Learn From My Experience/Mistakes
Vaisakh
You need to set a sleeping schedule so you are not late for school. I used to get out of bed late and I would be in a hurry to pack everything up, and sometimes I forgot things. If you can get up early, you don't need to rush, and you will most likely not forget anything. I changed this bad habit by sleeping earlier and focusing on trying to wake up. This way you can be a lot more relaxed than stressed.

For physical fitness testing, start training as early as you can.You might think you are able to train for an award within a week, but it would help you to start early. Find a time to practice curl-ups and push-ups each week, and run a mile when you can.

During this year, one mistake that I wish that I could've changed is to work a little bit every day on my scrapbook project. I should've worked on a chapter a day. It was a fun project, but since I put it off thinking I could finish it, I ended up not finishing the later chapters to the best of my abilities.
One bad habit I have is that I take a long time to finish an assignment or project because sometimes I feel like I'm not in the mood to finish it.
Alexis
I have made many mistakes throughout 5th grade, and I am going to share them with you so you can make sure that you don't make
them.
Definitely do not procrastinate. I have done this with so many assignments, and the stress of knowing that your assignment isn't finished and is due tomorrow isn't a good feeling. Get it over with, complete it so you don't have to worry about it.
Study at least 3 days before the test! Don't study the night before! I did that for most of my tests, and trust me when I say, it is very stressful going over questions and trying to memorize it in less than an hour.
Double check your work! I almost never did during my tests, and I really wish I did. Looking through my answers, I knew I could have gotten a higher score if I double checked my answers.
Owen
I made a lot of mistakes over the school years that I want you to learn from, so you won’t make the same mistakes.
One of the mistakes I made was when I wasn’t ready for my Genius Hour Elevator Pitch [presentation]. You should always prepare for your elevator pitch or you will just stand there staring and not saying anything.
Another one of my mistakes is one time when I didn’t study for my spelling test and I got a 60%. This is why you should always study for your tests or you won’t get a passing grade.
Also, one time I wasn’t doing my homework on time and just played video games. You should always finish your homework on time and don’t get distracted by anything.
How to Stay Organized
Vaisakh
Keep your box organized. You do not have desks! It is easier to find things if you keep it clean. Staying organized can help you keep a clean mind.
Sruthi
It can be hard to concentrate during a class sometimes but if you use these tips you will be fine!
Tip 1 - Don’t take too many things with you. A pencil case and whatever you need for what you’re doing should be fine! Too many things will distract you!
Tip 2 - Try your best to stay organized. Staying organized is always hard because in 5th Grade you get a lot of assignments. Just try to work on each assignment at a certain time and you won’t have anything to worry about.
Tip 3 - Take a break between sometimes. If you keep working you’re going to hurt your eyes and you will get tired. If you take a break and try again you might even work better than before!
If there is a question that you have after you have looked through the directions and resources, don't be scared to ask your teacher for help! Remember that a proper and polite email is key! Even asking your classmates for help is okay too!
