In grade 8, instructional time focuses on four Domains: (1) The Real Complex Number System: students will know that there are numbers that are not rational and approximate them by rational numbers; (2) Geometry: students will understand and apply the Pythagorean Theorem, understand congruence and similarity using physical models, transparencies or geometric software, while solving real-world mathematical problems involving volume of cylinders, cones, spheres; (3) Operations and Algebraic Thinking: students will work with radicals and integer exponents, analyze and solve linear equations, define, evaluate, and compare functions and their relationships between quantities; (4) Statistics and Probability: students will investigate patterns of association in bivariate data. Each domain provides students with the necessary knowledge to advance in their mathematics education.
