Course Information/Overview: Introduction to Art (Grades 6,7,8) is a one semester course. This course will be filled with projects and activities that will increase learners' critical thinking, problem solving skills, improve collaborative participation, creativity and develop communication skills through creating, writing about and discussing various artworks. This course will offer opportunities to develop a variety of skills and techniques through the study of the elements and principles of art. At the core of this introductory course are the four anchor standards established in the National Core Art Standards:
Creating: conceiving and developing new artistic ideas and work.
Presenting: interpreting and sharing original artistic work.
Connecting: relating artistic ideas and work with personal meanings and external contexts.
Responding: understanding and evaluating how visual arts convey meanings.
