Experiencing a Marine Reserve Trip
The Department of Conservation has approached Auroa School to be part of an educational program that involves students experiencing marine reserves. This involves a DOC representative coaching students to snorkle in the school pool, the town pool, and also at Ngamotu Beach. The experience culminates with a trip to Goat Island to experience the marine reserve. The DOC rep talks of students getting close to a huge variety of marine life, from giant snapper to octopi. This is a one-off experience for 2018 and will not be offered next year.
As this will be a bit of a trip, we will be using this for the Y7 camp, rather than going to Vertical Horizon this year. We believe that this will be a great experience for the students, and will provide many with an experience that they would not have had before.
Cost for camp is $250 per student. For those who set up automatic payments through the year to cover camp costs, you will still be able to do this through automatic payments. If you do not have automatic payments set up with the school, we ask that you set one up or pay the cost prior to camp.
