A charter is the basis for all board activity. It sets out your board's priorities for the coming year as well as its long term goals.
It is important a charter is in place at the start of the school year to guide your school’s teaching and learning programmes from the first day of school.
Your board should use the charter throughout the school year to monitor progress and ensure it is on track to meet its aims and targets. Boards can amend planned actions and adjust support and resources if required.
A charter includes and shows:
- Your board’s aims and targets for improving student progress and achievement; and
- Your school’s community how the board intends to accelerate student achievement, particularly for Māori and Pasifika students, students with special education needs and those at risk of not achieving.
