Enrollment for next year’s freshman class is at 200 students. We are encouraged by these numbers and anticipate continued growth in the coming months.
We are wrapping up the third week of state testing. Last week, students completed part of the ELA assessment, and we are currently holding numbers as we are still waiting for English 1A testing, which will be held next week. This week, we administered the CAST Assessment, which currently stands at 96.10%. We are at 99.35% completion in Math and 66.03% in ELA. Next week, we will begin English 1A, our last scheduled testing week, and help finalize our numbers for the ELA portion of State Testing.
Last week, we celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week by recognizing the hard work and dedication of our West Valley teachers. Their daily efforts help create a campus where students can thrive, staff support one another, and the community feels connected and proud.
We are grateful for everything our teachers do to support our school and students.
Congratulations to Kelsey Roble, named Rotary Freshman of the Year, proudly presented by West Valley High School Senior Brooke Ehn.
Kelsey is an outstanding student-athlete, excelling both in the classroom and on the field. She competed on the Varsity Softball team and holds an impressive 4.6 weighted GPA with a 4.0 non-weighted GPA.
We are incredibly proud of Kelsey's accomplishments in her first year at West Valley and look forward to watching her continue to grow, lead, and excel on our campus.
Keep up the great work, Kelsey!
We’re proud to announce that Jacob Garcia from West Valley High School and Abby Deng from Enterprise High School have been selected to serve as Student Board Members for the 25–26 school year!
Chosen by the Shasta County Board of Education from a pool of four outstanding candidates, Jacob and Abby will represent student voices across the county for the next year. They will follow in the footsteps of current Student Board Members Kaitlyn Wendland (Shasta High School) and Hijran Rahimee (Enterprise High School), who were honored for their service at the May 14th board meeting with silver graduation cords and commemorative plaques.
We couldn’t be more proud of Jacob and all he’s accomplished. We know he’ll represent West Valley with dedication, leadership, and integrity!
To help students prepare for science finals and boost their grades before the end of the semester, Life Science tutoring is being offered every Tuesday at 3:00 PM in Room 611. This support will continue through the last week of classes, allowing students to reinforce their understanding and help them succeed academically.
Jeanette Mojica's Spanish classes have been learning about the significance of El 5 de Mayo. As part of their studies, students completed research projects exploring the holiday's history and cultural importance. The classes held a festive Fiesta to celebrate their learning on Monday, May 5, 2025. It was a fun and educational experience.
This past weekend, the Screamin' Eagles Drumline proudly marched in the Cottonwood Rodeo Parade, showcasing their talent and school spirit. The students performed exceptionally well and represented our school with pride. Mr. Wohlrabe expressed much pride in this group's progress.
A special thank you goes to Mr. Costa, who generously visited the school the day before the parade to adjudicate the group. His feedback provided valuable insights, and the students walked away with suggestions on how they could further improve their performance.
We are excited about the growth of our drumline and look forward to future performances!
The Ceramics class recently completed a creative collaboration with our North Cottonwood first graders. Using the students’ original monster drawings, the WV ceramics students brought the creatures to life as 3D ceramic sculptures.
Next Monday, the high school students will introduce the finished creations to the North Cottonwood first-grade artists who inspired them. This fun and meaningful project not only showcased artistic talent but also helped build memorable connections across grade levels.

At last week’s final varsity baseball game, the team presented Mr. Byxbe with a custom jersey. It was a special and heartfelt moment, recognizing his support and connection to the team. Mr. Byxbe was deeply grateful for the personalized gift, and the gesture meant a great deal to everyone involved.
Last week, the Lady Eagles Softball Team celebrated Senior Night, honoring four seniors: Brooke Ehn, Taylor Lowe, Mem McDougall, and Eve Middendorf. Before the game against Yreka, each senior was introduced and walked to the first baseline with their parents. One of the most memorable moments of the night was the "Last Catch," where each senior played catch with their dad—a tradition that brought a lot of emotion to the field.
A major highlight of the game came when Mem McDougall hit her first-ever out-of-the-park home run, creating an unforgettable moment in her final home game. The game was full of energy and emotion as the seniors took the field one last time.
We're grateful to our Senior Lady Eagles for their commitment to the program and the example they've set for their teammates.
Senior Athlete Signing Day will take place on May 28th from 4:30 to 6:00 PM in the West Valley Library.
