We’re thrilled to share that our enrollment has grown to 739 students, marking an increase of three from last week! Our average daily attendance is 93.87% as of October 31, and 184 students have maintained perfect attendance since the start of the year. We’re so proud of our students’ dedication and commitment!
Earlier this week, as part of our ongoing commitment to No Child Left Behind principles, Mr. Byxbe shared a list with all West Valley faculty identifying 43 students without an initial next to their name out of 739. These initials represent faculty members who have built connections or relationships with each student. For students without initials, our goal is to assign or enlist volunteers among the staff to ensure every student has a trusted adult they can turn to. This initiative is essential in fostering meaningful relationships and building rapport, which are vital for student success and well-being.
Mr. Poldervaart and Maintenance utilized steel and the plasma table to craft a custom pen for Mojo. They then welded the pen to the gate and completed the project with a fresh coat of paint. It's coming together nicely.
Mr. Zuppan and Mr. Byxbe had requested that the poorly performing water fountain at the pool be upgraded to a filtered fountain and bottle filler.
This upgrade will be fantastic for our athletes—swimmers, tennis players, and football players—allowing them to access cold, filtered water quickly during practices. Mr. Simonsen was pleased to install the new system and is excited to support our students and school with this improvement.
We are excited to highlight an engaging project underway in Mrs. Pellow's class, where students are delving into physics and engineering principles by creating Rube Goldberg machines. These machines use a series of simple mechanisms—like levers, pulleys, and screws—to achieve a specific goal, which in this case, is to pop a balloon. Through this hands-on activity, students apply their understanding of cause and effect, force, and motion to construct intricate chain reactions. This project emphasizes the practical application of classroom concepts, encouraging creativity, problem-solving, teamwork, and critical thinking as students design and refine their machines.
To the left are pictures of the ten students who attended the Shasta College CTE Academy on Monday and Wednesday. They attempted a welding certification in the SMAW 1G position on a 3/8 plate.
Congratulations to Cale Harrison, who successfully passed his welding certification and earned an AWS D1.1 1G SMAW certification!
All students appeared to enjoy the experience and performed well. The Shasta College instructors praised the students' skill sets, and the students appreciated being introduced to a college CTE learning environment.
The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) huddle was a huge success at lunch yesterday. Students enjoyed pizza while listening to an inspiring message from our guest speaker, Taylor Spielman. The event fostered a sense of community and provided valuable insights for our students.
WV FFA CHAPTER FIELD TRIP
West Valley FFA Chapter students were given the opportunity to tour the Coleman National Fish Hatchery with Mrs. Gonzales! They learned about their fish-raising techniques and conservation efforts, which significantly impact salmon populations.
We are excited to announce the grand opening of our after-school Eagle Vision program, which aims to enhance student learning and engagement. This program offers students a variety of resources, including tutoring in Math, Biology, AG biology, Anatomy, and Earth Science. Students in Credit Recovery can also utilize this time to focus on completing their required credits.
Participants will also be able to enjoy a snack and engage in enriching activities such as Dice Club, Robotics, and Gaming.
They are encouraging families to take advantage of this free service, as program funding depends on participation, and we'd love to see the program grow and succeed. For registration, they have students signing up online.
West Valley proudly kicked off Red Ribbon Week on Wednesday, October 23rd, and will continue the celebration through Friday, November 1st. Students are encouraged to wear black to support "Block Out Drugs." These spirit days are an important reminder of the commitment to staying drug-free across our campus. The Eagles are truly dedicated to keeping their future bright and smoke-free!
EAGLES UNITE AGAINST DRUGS! Students have been participating in Red Ribbon Week from October 23rd to November 1st, during which we have embraced the theme “Life is a Movie. Film Drug Free.” They are taking control of their stories and making positive choices that lead to a brighter, drug-free future!
