Our school enrollment is currently at 732 students. Our average daily attendance is 93.67% as of November 7th. Of the 732 students, 149 have maintained perfect attendance, and 32 have had perfect period attendance since the start of the year. We’re so proud of our students’ dedication and commitment!
ASL Halloween Festivities
On Halloween, our ASL classes held a haunted house competition. Working in small groups, students had 30 minutes and limited supplies to create their best-haunted house design. The following class then voted on the winning house from the previous period. This week, students learned how to sign the details of the winning haunted house, adding an ASL component to the activity. Click for assignment details.
An Eventful Wednesday at West Valley!
Wednesday was anything but ordinary here on campus! We directed classes by lantern light with the power out, adding a rustic touch to the school day. Just as we were settling in, a fire broke out in Happy Valley, keeping everyone on high alert.
A special thanks go to Deidre McDougall from The Bean for bringing warm coffee to keep spirits up and to Mr. Byxbe and Mrs. Simonsen, who went from room to room, refilling coffee cups and checking in on students’ safety. Huge appreciation also goes to our dedicated staff for coming together and turning a chaotic morning into a manageable, even memorable, one.
It was a Wednesday we won’t forget anytime soon!
Despite a chaotic start to the day, we were grateful to welcome Maggie Joyce and Cynthia Vengley, SCOE Youth Support Services Coordinators, to our campus. They led an important session with our staff and provided valuable guidance and resources on supporting our homeless and foster youth.
This meeting was essential, as it equips our team with the tools needed to offer these students the support and stability crucial to their success. We appreciate Maggie and Cynthia’s expertise and are committed to implementing these strategies to better serve our students in need.
We're thrilled that our new Eagle Vision program is officially underway! So far, 225 students have signed up through sign-ins, and approximately 50 of those students are fully registered via our designated QR code.
As part of Eagle Vision, every Thursday in November, Ms. Reyher is hosting a "POD" session from 2:40 to 3:40 p.m. dedicated to Credit Recovery and Edgenuity courses. Students interested in signing up can connect with their counselor to enroll and start working on course credits.
Additionally, Eagle Vision offers tutoring sessions for students needing math support from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. every day except Fridays. Students can easily sign up for this tutoring POD using Eagle Vision's QR code or speaking directly with Mr. Driver or Mr. Stringer.
Eagle Vision is off to a fantastic start, and we're excited to see its positive impact on our students' academic success!
Students from the Upward Bound program recently attended a lecture on graphic design, where they learned how to create images using Adobe Illustrator. This hands-on experience provided valuable insights into design principles and the creative process, helping students develop new skills in digital art and design.
At Simpson University's STEM Preview Day, students participated in an engineering challenge to "build a Mars rover." Their task was to construct a device capable of securely holding a ping-pong ball as it was dropped from a balcony. In addition, they attended a health sciences demonstration, where they learned about hospital sanitation and practiced proper handwashing techniques.
West Valley Volleyball pulled off an incredible upset against the number one seed in Division 3, earning a spot in the Division 3 Championship for the fifth consecutive year! 🏐
Join us this Saturday at 7:00 PM at Foothill High School to cheer on our team in the championship match. Let’s show up and show our support! Go Eagles! 🦅
