Our school enrollment is currently at 727 students. Our average daily attendance for the year is 93.38% as of December 5th. Of the 727 students, 119 have maintained perfect attendance, and 17 have had perfect period attendance since the start of the year. We’re so proud of our students’ dedication and commitment!
Christmas Carnival
Event Update
West Valley Leadership is excited to host a Christmas Carnival for our Eagle families and the community. In preparation for the event, we reached out through social media to recruit vendors. The response was overwhelming, with more than 50 vendors expressing interest in participating.
Due to space limitations caused by a basketball tournament on the same day, the leadership class had the opportunity to select vendors that best fit the event's needs carefully.
A special acknowledgment goes to student Emmie Sulzer, who has been the primary coordinator for this event. Emmie has exceptionally managed communications and logistics to bring this event to life.
We look forward to welcoming everyone to this festive celebration!
The leadership class currently hosts a canned food drive, with donations collected from campus building wings and individual classes. The drive is structured as follows:
Double points: December 2–6
Points and a half: December 9–13
Regular points: December 16–17
The drive will end after the first period on December 17, and all donations must be dropped off that morning. The class that collects the most ounces will win a pizza party, and the wing with the most ounces of canned goods will enjoy Rice Krispy treats with hot cocoa as their reward.
Our school is embracing the holiday spirit with a Christmas Door Decoration Competition! Each 5th-period class has been invited to transform their classroom door into a festive and creative display to celebrate the season.
Judging will occur on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, during the 6th period, with prizes awarded to the most outstanding entries. This fun and engaging activity encourages school spirit and creativity as we prepare to close the year on a festive note!
STAFF MEMBER OF THE MONTH
Life Skills students from Mrs. Smith's class have been actively engaged in learning essential sewing techniques. They practiced three types of hand stitches and worked on sewing buttons, developing practical skills they can use in everyday life.
Mrs. Mojica's Spanish class worked on a heartfelt "We Give Thanks" project during the week leading up to the break. This activity allowed students to reflect on gratitude while practicing their language skills, culminating in a meaningful and creative learning experience.
In Mrs. Kerr's English class, Students explored Edgar Allan Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart" through two creative assignments. The first task challenged them to retell the story in a comic-book style using only six panels. The second involved crafting blackout poems inspired by the text. Additionally, the class embraced a festive spirit by creating hand turkeys on the Friday before Thanksgiving break, adding a fun and artistic touch to their learning experience.
WV Art Students Bring Artistic Abilities to Anderson Outlets
Mrs. Reyher's Art class had the exciting opportunity to decorate windows at the Anderson Outlets. The students showcased their creativity, producing an impressive display that added festive charm to the space. After completing their artwork, the students were treated to a well-deserved lunch at Charlew's, making the day memorable and rewarding.
Hands-On Culinary Experience:
From Butchering to Cooking
Culinary 1 students in Mrs. Smith's class recently experienced one of the best lessons of the year. They started by learning to butcher whole chickens, preparing them for breading and frying. The following day, the students cooked the fried chicken they had prepared, combining butchering and cooking skills for a comprehensive hands-on learning experience. This engaging lesson was made possible thanks to a generous donation from the Cottonwood Chamber of Commerce.
Freshman English: Building and Promoting Imaginary Nations
This year, in Mrs. Kerr's class, she introduced an innovative freshman English project as a capstone to the Animal Farm unit. Students work collaboratively to create their imaginary country, designing its government, economic system, political structure, religion, and more. These projects will be showcased during the days leading up to finals. The final element of the project involves creating a commercial to promote their country, similar to the "Visit California" ads. The attached photo captures students in action, filming their creative country commercials.
The Eagle Vision Room has become a vibrant student hub, offering opportunities for connection and enrichment during and after school hours. Recently, students have been enjoying spirited and intense pool games, which foster camaraderie and provide a positive outlet for their energy.
After school, Eagle Vision continues to support students by offering small snacks before practices and serving as a welcoming space where they can hang out until their parents arrive. Additionally, students have the opportunity to receive extra help with their studies from teachers, making Eagle Vision a multifaceted resource for our campus community.
This program is making a significant impact by creating a supportive and engaging environment for our students.
We are thrilled to announce that Mrs. Gibson and her Ag Business class have created a new venture, Eagle Made Co.
They are now accepting orders for custom plaques, trophies, Christmas gifts, and personalized items. Their engraving capabilities allow them to work on various materials, including metal, leather, wood, and more. This is a fantastic opportunity to purchase unique gifts for the holiday season or customized items for sports and personal use.
Looking ahead, we are actively working to integrate additional equipment, including an embroidery machine and a shirt press, which we anticipate will be operational by spring.
We appreciate your support as we continue to grow this student-led enterprise. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions!
