LCAP Goal #1. Anderson Union High School District students will be college or career ready upon graduation.
Attendance & Tardy Sweep
AUHS enrollment is currently 562 students. Attendance and tardies appear to be lower than 95% this week. We are following up with students and parents, issuing consequences and rewards for students with perfect attendance and no tardies but these efforts have not seemed to make significant impacts so far. Studies on students attendance habits indicate they are established early on in their educational experience but attendance is so important for student success and we will continue to encourage our students to be in school and on time.
Quarter Grades
Progress reports went out on 9/23/24 and since then we have placed all students-athletes who were below a 2.0 GPA on academic probation. Students that did not turn in a progress report from their teachers with above a 2.0 have been excluded from practicing with their team until they get their progess report turned in.
Bob Reid Stadium
Earl Jackson sent a drone up on Friday afternoon to capture this photograph of our field and as you can see the AUHS maintenance team and Mr. Whitmore's Landscape Managment did a terrific job painting the football field for our Homecoming. The grass on the field is still being "rehabilitated" by our grounds keeper Don Glenn. Don has helped both the field and our lawns on campus a lot in a short period of time and I am confident that by this time next year our football field will be fully green.
Counseling
Senior Night
The AUHS Counselors helding a well attended Senior Insight Night to talk to Seniors and their parents about when they can start the college application process as well as deadlines, where to find information on scholarships (on our website), what scholarships we already know of, when to apply, how to apply, when future meetings will take place, and everything college related that will help them successfully prepare for their post-secondary plans.
Besides preparing for and presenting information to our families at Senior Insight Night the AUHS counselors have been going through the college application process with students during the school day who are applying to four year universities as well as working with Heather Israel and the Tech department so students records are in line with the latest requirements before uploading them to Webgrants.
LCAP Goal #2. Anderson Union High School District will provide a safe, orderly, and responsive learning environment for all students.
Leadership Planning Team
Mr. Safford met with the AUHS Dept. Chairs on Tuesday morning to go over the English Learner tools and supports for our students. Which include DeepL Translator, Pocketalk, Accommodations and Modifications Checklist, EL Student Roster.

The AUHS Site Council members have been determined and the first meeting of the year will be held in the AUHS Library at 4:00pm on Thursday October 17th. This years SSC members include Thomas Safford- Chairperson Principal, Christopher Montoya- Parent, Wendi Moore- Parent, Chasity Eaton- Parent, Ashlee Herrera- Classified Staff, Steven Whitmore- Certificated Staff, Rusti Wonder- Certificated Staff, Chris Dell- Certificated Staff, and two student members.
Facilities
The Maintenance crew reinstalled our "Home of the Cubs" lettering on the Library this week. Mr. Shriner came on campus to get measurements and determine the best placement for our new scoreboards. The scoreboard install will take place over the weekend here at AUHS and be ready for use next week.
LCAP Goal #3. AUHS will develop and maintain a systematic method for partnering with parents, guardians and community members in the ongoing development of district programs and services.
HOCO Breakfast
The PACE Committee's Maddie Eason, Megan Frost, and Carrie Safford along with Chris Frost, and Tom Safford cooked Homecoming breakfast for the Football teams, Cheer teams and Golden Pride Marching Band. It was a great turnout of students and coaches.
Sponsors
Principal Safford's former student and AUHSD alumni Ryan O'Conner designed, fabricated and donated an impressive powder coated metal sign and banner sponsor holder. This metal work looks great in our stadium and allows easy display of our wonderful yearly sponsors.
Homecoming
Last week was our annual homecoming week with many festivities for our students to participate in. We had consistent participation from our students during the Dress-up Spirit Week. Last week we also had our students preparing floats, which involved various groups and clubs within our high school. These floats were then taken through Anderson to commemorate the homecoming week and to bring our community closer through student engagement. Some businesses also participated in decorating and each grade was able to encapsulate their chosen spirit day. First place was awarded to Mrs. Weber and the freshman class. That same Friday our football team beat Oroville 40-0, to finish the homecoming night.
The follow day, Saturday, leadership students decorated the cafeteria and held our annual Fall Homecoming dance. Despite requiring a minimum 2.0 GPA and no major behaviors this semester, we still sold over 185 tickets, and brought in over 2,000 dollars (which is a dramatic increase from last year). Overall this was a major success compared to prior years and we can't wait to continue carrying on a positive school environment for our students and community.
