LCAP Goal #1. Anderson Union High School District students will be college or career ready upon graduation.
Attendance
Attendance is important! AUHS cares about our students consistently coming to school and showing up on-time everyday. We know how important attendance is for students to have the academic foundation they need to be successful. AUHS has developed and implemented a school-wide system of incentives and reward for good attendance. We choose to celebrate our students on a basis for perfect attendance and no tardies. Our TOSA (Teacher on Special Assignment), Mr. Dell, holds meetings with chronically absent students, their parents, and a support team to learn root causes of attendance and offer solutions and connect them with resources when appropriate to help improve their attendance.
Career Fair
The 2nd Annual AUHS Career Fair will take place on our campus on Wednesday April 9th. The Career Fair was a huge success last year with a gym full of professionals. The event coincides with a Collaboration Day so professionals can present to all students during their Social Studies classes while the day still concludes for them around 1:00pm. ROP Career Specialist, Jamie Vanpool, has been working hard to organize this year's event.
Trap Shooting Team
The AUHS Trap Shooting Team dusted off their shotguns and held their first practice last week at the Redding Gun Club. The team is being coached by Mr. Wold, who is exicted to bring back trap shooting to Anderson and provide our students with a lifetime sport.
Mama Mia
AUHSD Actors, lead by Mr. Anthony Howard-Erevia, will delight the crowds May1st-3rd in Mamma Mia. This is a musical featuring the songs of ABBA, telling the story of a daughter's quest to find her father on the eve of her wedding, set on a Greek island paradise.
-Leadership is running a fundraiser raffle to get students to Disneyland at the end of May. Raffle tickets are $10 each and the prize is a 36'' Blackstone Grill! All proceeds go directly towards individual student cost.
-Leadership is currently planning prom and finalizing details for the big day. Prom will be at the Stirring in Redding on April 26th from 7pm-10pm. Tickets are $40 each. There will be a photo booth, a surprise dessert truck, and a couple other fun things to make the night extra special and memorable. The theme is "A Sparkling Soiree" (Gatsby/the Roaring 20s).
-Leadership is also prepping for Buff Puff on March 26th (boys of each grade play against each other in Volleyball).
-We are also in the works to collaborate with Cub Connection on a community Powder Puff event in May, since we had to cancel Powder Puff in the fall.
Counselors met with Pacheco and Tree of Life (feeder schools) counselors on Thursday 3/13 at the RHS Secondary Counselor Meeting at the SCOE PDC. Counselors are approving academic plans so they are ready to roll over into course requests.
Students in the Ag Science courses this week had a hands-on learning experience as they participated in a necropsy on a hog lead by Mr. Whitmore. This unique opportunity allowed them to observe firsthand the effects of pneumonia in livestock, gaining valuable insight into animal health and disease identification. Through this real-world application, students deepened their understanding of agricultural science and veterinary practices.
This week in Cub Connection we continue with our after school PODS including Credit Recover, Math Tutoring, Weight Training with Coach Harris, Robotics and Drivers Ed Prep. On Saturday we are taking a group of students on our first “Surf Club” trip to Santa Cruz! We will have more fun and exciting updates to follow.
LCAP Goal #2. Anderson Union High School District will provide a safe, orderly, and responsive learning environment for all students.
Master Schedule
In the process of creating a student driven Master Schedule for the 2025-2026 school year, Principal Safford has taken into account the FTE's provided by the district office, created a Mock Schedule, counselors have met with almost all students to discuss class choices, and counselor Mrs. Reid and Mr. Jones met with Principal Safford on 4/2/25 to discuss the number of sections to offer of each class based on student selections. Principal Safford and AUHS Counselors will meet again next week for a longer session to prioritize student needs and preferrence, ensuring a more personalized, relevant, and effective learning experience.
Food Service
The AUHS Food Service staff is holding a recipe contest! Entrees must be submitted by April 30th. Pick up the flier with all the guidelines, in the cafeteria next to the RECIPE CONTEST sign. The winning recipe will be placed on future menus. Good luck staff and students!
LCAP Goal #3. AUHS will develop and maintain a systematic method for partnering with parents, guardians and community members in the ongoing development of district programs and services.
