This week we are exploring reference materials in the library. Reference materials are detailed books and websites that provide us with specialized information. Alot of these resources can be found within the WorldBook Online site which we explored on your last visit. Here's a quick breakdown:
An atlas contains maps of cities, states and countries.
A dictionary contains the definition, spelling, part of speech and correct usage of a word. Some dictionaries also have the origin and history of a word.
A thesaurus is a great tool for writing. It has antonyms (opposites) and words that mean the same thing (synonyms).
An almanac can contain weather and astronomical data for a given year as well as general statistics and information like who won the World Series.
