We often use a website like Worldbookonline.com for finding information. We use this site because we can trust that the information is correct and verified by experts. But, sometimes we might find a site that seems to have good information. But how do you know for sure? There are a few simple steps you can take:
Who is the Publisher? Check the URL at the top of the page. Is the page coming from a .EDU (for educational sites) or .ORG (for non-profits and organizations) or .GOV (for government sites)? If so that means that the site might be ok.
Is there an Author for the information? If so, is he/she an expert?
What is the Content like? Does it look professional; is the grammar and spelling correct; do they site any sources; are there ads popping up?
What's the Purpose of the site? Are they trying to:
inform/educate you OR
persuade you or sell you something
