Hello ACPS families! For the month of November, we are focusing on celebrating small achievements. The resources we shared last month focused on encouraging your children to set goals for themselves, and many of these goals are long-term. While it is important to have long-term goals in mind, we also want to acknowledge smaller, everyday successes. These “everyday wins” could include completing all school work before dinner, finishing a new book, having a good sports practice, or using positive coping strategies. Acknowledging and celebrating small victories everyday will help create a stronger relationship between you and your child. When you recognize and praise these achievements, the more likely your children are to continue working hard at smaller tasks.
We have included several links below that explore this idea of acknowledging small successes. The first link includes a short article and a video that discuss what celebrating small wins can look like. The second link provides an explanation of descriptive praise. Descriptive praise is an excellent strategy to use when recognizing your child’s wins. The third link takes you to a visual support called a “Goal Thermometer” that can help you break down long-term goals into smaller steps. The fourth link is a poster that details some ways that you can celebrtate small wins. This poster is designed for teachers, but you can do many of the same thngs at home. Lastly, we have included a highlight reel to show some of the daily wins that we have seen at school! We hope you find these resources helpful. If you would like any further information, please let us know!
