The NZMRI (New Zealand Mathematics Research Institute) was established by Vaughan Jones and others with the aim of promoting mathematical research in New Zealand. Since 1994 the main focus of the NZMRI’s activity has been the organisation of an annual series of summer meetings on particular topics of contemporary significance in mathematics. The meetings have a pleasant and informal atmosphere.
The meeting will be held January 12-18, 2025 at the Hanmer Springs Hotel, in Hanmer Springs.
NZMRI2025 will feature outstanding researchers working with waves. Each lecturer will give two to three lectures on specific topics related to wave phenomena: theory, numerics and applications.

Students at NZ universities may apply for a Kalman Summer Scholarship, to assist their participation at this workshop. The Kalman Summer Scholarships were established from a generous bequest in support of New Zealand mathematics from the late John Kalman, a former professor at the University of Auckland. Applicants will normally be expected to be studying for an Honours or Masters degree or a PhD.
Four or five Kalman Summer Scholarships will be awarded, to help cover costs of travel and incidental costs (on top of their accommodation and catered meals). Scholarship recipients will be expected to submit a full report by mid-February 2025, describing what they gained from their participation in the workshop. Applicants should submit an academic transcript, brief CV, and a statement from their academic supervisor (or mentor) that indicates how participation in the summer meeting will benefit the student’s development.
