Study, Study, Study

By Breya W.

Condensation, evaporation, and precipitation! Study, study, study! Our peers here on team Whitecap are excited to be tested out of our water unit! We team Whitecap are moving onto learning about the atmosphere. We are learning about the layers in the atmosphere, the gases that make up the atmosphere and more! We will have a test next week on Wednesday, November 1st for block ABC and November, 2nd for block D, so don’t forget study, study, study!

(disclaimer this article is an old article we have now tested out of the atmosphere unit)

CO2 Cars

By Maddi D.

You’re probably wondering how a block of wood can become a car that can be aerodynamic, and fast. Well that one is easy, it all starts in the tech lab class taught by Mr. Rowe and Mrs. Poulin. They told us we had to turn a solid block of wood with a hole in the back into a fast car. It could be funny, made for speed, or a little of both. Well, naturally we all freaked out because that seemed impossible, but turns out it was actually pretty easy with the right teachers which we had. Well, first we had to draw out our designs on the piece of paper, glue that to a piece of wood, and then cut it out. Then we sanded it, painted it, and put the wheels on. Finally we put the Co2 cartridge in the hole and we raced them down the hallway to see if they actually work. Next stop, NASCAR!

Social Studies

By Maddi D.

The social studies class on Whitecap is a blast! The teacher is Ms. Abbott, and she’s awesome! She’s funny, smart, and she knows how to make the day fun. Back to social studies, well what we did first was design a monument for a person or an event and we had to think of where we would put it in or around the school. Next, we studied hot air balloons because we were making hot air balloons at the end of the day for about a month. We learned about the history of hot air balloons, we learned about what they are made of, and we learned about how they work. We made the balloons out of tissue paper, wire, glue, string, and cardstock. They were as tall as the classrooms! We also learned about 9/11 around 9/11. We learned about the buildings, the attack, why the people attacked New York, and how the attack affected not only New York, but all of America. Since it’s the beginning of the year, that’s all that we’ve worked on so far.

Out In The Woods

By Takiah R.

Last week Mrs. Blaisdell’s class went outside to learn about the trees and other things in nature. We went with Mr. Reilly, Ms. Bonnie and Mr. Robertston on one of the school’s walking trails that CLC helped to create. We found animal footprints that were tiny like baby feet. They looked like puppy dog tracks. We saw a pond that was pretty, and so many trees! One tree had been struck by lightning -- it was cool because you couldn’t see it from one side, but we saw it from the other side and it looked like a lighting bolt! We looked at a lot of cool rocks and our teacher took pictures. It was a lot of fun even though it was cold out because it was in the morning, and I want to do it again.
