The Auburn School District Language Access Plan provides guidance for staff members to enhance partnerships with our families.  Our goal is to ensure all families have meaningful access to information necessary to make educational decisions and ensure equitable participation in educational programs. It is crucial that the District seek to address language barriers and do so free of charge.


Each school needs to communicate with families in the language they understand including notifying families whose primary language of communication is not English or have limited proficiency in English.


We are required to provide families about school and district programs, services, activities, and updates in a language they can understand such as:

Language Access definitions:

LAP: A Language Access Plan is a document that spells out how an institution will provide services to non-English speakers or people with limited English proficiency. 

LEP: LEP persons are individuals who are unable to communicate effectively in English either verbally, in writing, or both, because their primary language is not English and they have not developed fluency in the English language. A person with LEP may have difficulty in one or more of four domains of language: speaking, listening, reading, and writing.

Primary Language: the language that someone uses most frequently to communicate with.

Interpretation: The process of orally rendering communication from one language to another while retaining the same meaning.

Consecutive Interpretation: Interpreting messages back and forth after each person has spoken, so that one person speaks at a time.  

Simultaneous Interpretation: Interpretation takes places at the same time as the speaker, slightly behind the speaker’s words. The speaker does not stop talking, and the interpreter does not stop talking. 

Translation: The replacement of written text from one language (source language) into an equivalent written text in another language (target language).

Parent/Guardian Identification: A part of the annual registration process; The process that the Auburn School District identifies LEP families.

how to access:

The district maintains an updated list of competent and trained interpreters and translators. To schedule an interpreter please contact our Language Access Dept or please submit a google form  (specific to interpreting or translation). 


Please note: parents may be asking schools to obtain interpreters and translations on their behalf, please be sure to select the checkbox that asks this question on the google form.

Fill out the google form and it will go directly to interpreters@auburn.wednet.edu. Be sure to include language, meeting location and time).

A two-week notice is recommended to allow adequate time for finding an interpreter.

translation requests:

Fill out the google form and it will go directly to interpreters@auburn.wednet.edu. Be sure to upload the document as a word document.

A two-week notice is recommended to allow time for processing and approvals.

sign language interpretation:

The district sources sign language interpreters who are available to interpret at school events and meetings. Fill out the Google form and it will go directly to interpreters@auburn.wednet.edu.) A two-week notice is recommended to allow adequate time for finding an interpreter.
