Red Ribbon Week is an annual, national campaign that takes place during October 23rd-31st. It began in 1985, sparked by the brutal and unrighteous murder of Enrique (Kiki) Camarena, a Drug Enforcement Administration Agent. Prior to his death, he told his mother he joined the agency because, “I’m only one person, but I want to make a difference.” The campaign initially started when parents and youth wore red ribbons to express their commitment to raising awareness for the damage that drugs cause in America.
