FCCLA also hosted its very first Fall Festival. It took place on November 4th at Penny Park from 1 to 5. There were many different organizations and classes with their own booths for games and snacks. When asked why FCCLA felt the Fall Festival was important, Mrs. Meadows responded, “We wanted to try something new and bring something to the community. It also provides visibility in the community for organizations that may be lacking in recognition. We want to promote all of them and show support for the community as well.” The Fall Festival also served our community’s families, with many games and activities at the booths geared toward younger children. Mrs. Meadows said, “We don’t have a lot of things for families to do in Atoka, so when we get a chance we want to make that happen for the younger kids in our community.” When it comes to the booths themselves, some of the organizations featured included Special Olympics, Hope Squad, and National Honor Society. There were also several other organizations hosting booths and activities. FCCLA is hoping that the Fall Festival will become an annual tradition!
On October 17th, our AHS FCCLA chapter attended the District Leadership Conference, or DLC. I spoke with Mrs. Meadows, who is both our high school chapter advisor as well as our district advisor. She shared that “this year’s DLC theme was ‘Barbie’ and the main point was how it’s okay to be yourself.” DLC is all about inspiring FCCLA members to become leaders in their schools, communities, and world. This year’s speaker was Generation Why, who talked about how important each individual is and how it is not only okay, but also encouraged to be yourself. Mrs. Meadows also shared that she thinks “everyone had a good time. Generation Why tried to keep it upbeat and moving.”
