Senior choir members with the trophy
This was the choir’s first event of the school year, but certainly not the last. Mrs. Pebworth views the recent contest as practice for the more serious competitions and concerts to come. She believes "this contest was a wonderful way to get choir started for the year.” The choir will also attend a Christmas contest in December hosted by Ole Red in Tishomingo. The choir attended the same event last year and received 2nd place, bringing home $250 to put toward their spring musical. This year, the choir will be entering two separate groups into the competition.
The choir as a whole after their win
In last month’s paper, there was an article about the upcoming East Central University Fall Choir Contest. Our AHS Choir is proud to announce that they received a 1 - a superior rating - and a trophy at said contest. The high school choir is composed of 19 hard-working students. When asked for a comment, choir teacher Mrs. Pebworth shared, “In the spring, we will go to the OSSAA District Choir Contest, and we will perform the same pieces that we prepared for the ECU Fall Festival."
The high school choir on stage
The Wampus Cat Chorus also tries to be very active in our school as well as in competitions. On Halloween, they sang “I Put A Spell On You” during the high school lunch period and threw candy into the crowd. The choir will also be performing a Christmas concert in the cafetorium for the community. Mrs. Pebworth feels very good about the choir’s outlook and community involvement moving forward, and the AHS News can't wait to see what they do next!
