Atoka High School Student Audrey McClour recently went to the state convention for FCCLA, where she joined other FCCLA Students who made many presentations to judges. She also participated in many events such as attending workshops, listening to speakers, and watching the new state officer team be elected. Atoka Wampus Cat News met up and asked her a few questions in regard to FCCLA and state convention.
While in FCCLA “It's been a dream of mine to place at the state convention since I was a freshman, so I can't believe it. I'm also really excited to experience the national convention,” she states. Our school has other activities such as FFA, BPA, and Book Club or Choir, but FCCLA is one of Audrey's Favorite things. Audrey states, " FCCLA is a CTSO for students based on Family and Consumer Sciences education.” Audrey is a member of the organization and also our school's chapter Vice President.
We asked her how she qualified for state. “In FCCLA, the top two contestants qualify to compete at the national level, as long as they score over an 80 on their rubric. That's how I was able to qualify for nationals,” she said. Scoring an 80 on the rubric is awesome. Audrey has many hobbies outside of FCCLA. She loves playing the piano. Also, she recently participated in the AHS choir's Sister Act Jr. production, playing a Nun. She also really loves singing.
For students who are interested in joining FCCLA, you can talk to Mrs. Meadows to obtain more information. At the beginning of each school year, there's a period when people can pay membership dues and join. “I really encourage everyone to join and be involved” states McClour. We would like to congratulate her for her amazing accomplishment in making it to nationals.
