Students at Atoka High School Noah Sherrill, Audrey McClour, and Julia Harwood recently paged for the Oklahoma State Legislature at the Capitol in Oklahoma City. For most students to be able to do something special, they would have to be chosen. That's how it was for senior Noah Sherill; he was one of the lucky ones. He recently went on a trip to the Oklahoma Capitol for the 2023 Legislative Session. Noah was there as a page for the Speaker, Charles McCall, in February. Noah had to turn in an application and be chosen for this special privilege.
For those of you who don't know what a page does (has a bed but never sleeps) during this session, here's a little bit of information for you: it is a program for Juniors and Seniors. Atoka Junior, Audrey McClour, told Wampus Cat News about her duties as a page for Speaker McCall. “I got to attend daily sessions in the chamber, where I ran errands for different representatives. Sometimes we would be asked to deliver notes across the chamber floor, sometimes a representative forgot something in their office, and we needed to go get it. We also got to have our own mock legislature called "Pageville," which was very awesome.”
Another AHS student, Julia Harwood, also paged during the 2023 Legislative Session. She told Atoka Wampus Cat News, “ I ran errands for the chamber and paged for Charles McCall. I learned a lot about the legislative process and how bills pass and how it works inside.” She told The AHS News that if she is offered another opportunity to serve, she will definitely take it.
