Poetry/Book club is held by Mrs. Hansen and Ms. Moreland. Every other Wednesday during activity time, the club switches between analyzing and creating poetry and discussing books. We asked Ms. Moreland what the club does and she replied, "We engage in lively discussions about our current reads in the Book Club. As for the Poetry Club, we delve into creating our own poetry books while exploring diverse poetic forms. We encourage members to share their crafted poems if they feel inclined." The members have similar interests in the genres and styles of writing; some members of the club have shared their original poetry. We questioned Ms. Moreland on what poetry means to her, and she responded, "Poetry is a channel for individuals to articulate feelings, experiences, ideas, and emotions artistically. It provides writers with an artful medium to express things they might find challenging to communicate verbally."
Every organization has a goal, whether it is to have fun, be competitive, or to further their education. When we asked Mrs. Hansen what the goal was for the Poetry/Book club, she stated, "The goal of the club is to gather students with similar interests and develop friendships. Another goal is to encourage reading in the student community and promote use of the school library." The club has a new activity in mind, Ms. Moreland states, "We're excited about our upcoming project in the Poetry Club: crafting personalized poetry books from recycled library materials. It's a creative endeavor where each member has full autonomy over their work, making it both enjoyable and unique." Poetry, reading, and writing mean different things to different people. To some it means homework, and to others it's what helps them strive, letting them express their feelings through art. We asked what inspired Ms. Moreland to continue the club and she said, "The love I have for books serves as my inspiration to spread that love throughout our community. I believe that if more people took the time to read, our world would undoubtedly be a brighter and happier place."
