Indoor percussion and Winter Guard have started here at APS, with Mr. Karafotis directing indoor percussion and Mrs. Olivieri directing Winter Guard.
Indoor percussion is a type of marching ensemble consisting of battery and front ensemble instruments. It differs from a traditional percussion ensemble by not only musical performance, but also theatrics and marching.
Winter Guard is an indoor color guard sport and performance art derived from military ceremonies. Modern Winter Guard is a competitive, performance-based activity that incorporates choreographed staging, dance, and manipulation of equipment such as flags, prop rifles, and sabers.
In the past, indoor percussion has competed in lots of performances across the country, going as far as Dayton, Ohio and as close as Texas. The group of students has tons of fun and makes lots of memories. Students compete at schools to play and be judged for a trophy. For the last two years, the group has received good comments on their outstanding shows such as "Cast Aways" and "Space Junk." Mr. Karafotis enjoys teaching this group and is ready for the season to begin.
