On the 28th of March, the Atoka choir students competed at State! This event was for large group, so the entire choir. The songs performed were Elijah Rock and Hope Is the Answer. Students also had to try their hand at sight reading. For most, this was the second time they had sight read at competition. Choir student member Ruby Copeland offered up her opinion on the day. She said, “This was my first time going to state and it was such an awesome experience! The best part of the day was definitely when we ate at The Garage. The part I struggled with the most was the sight reading. I am naturally really good at singing so when everyone is relying on me, it can be a lot of pressure.” Wow, Ruby must be really talented.
At the end of the day, the choir scored a 2 in performance and a 4 in sightreading. Even though these aren’t perfect scores, the choir had an immensely successful season.
On April 18-19, the soloists and ensembles will compete. If you see a choir student, wish them luck!
